The terror of Education

As I sit here close to another interview I keep pondering the state of education. No worries, I also hate the articles that last for 37 pages talking about American Education and ultimately go nowhere. So I am going to keep it Marine style, which is bottom line. That bottom line is this. The more I read articles about education and the more that I hear from administration leads me to believe that the number one goal in all of education is high Student Learning. That's an incredible goal and one that I also believe needs to be at the forefront of education. However, what do we do with the student who sleeps on the floor or the couch because he or she does not have a bed. How about the student who's parents are going through a messy divorce? How about the student who's mother finally just got a full time job to support the family........at Mcdonalds. (Yep had all these cases). The glaring problem is that the trend that follows is administrators, teachers, and all support staff who care more about the test score than the child. Everything that the government does revolves around increasing student learning. How good are their grades? What are their test scores like? How much growth are they showing? The last thing that is anyone's mind is the student sitting in the chair. Totally stinks. Really really shows an incredible need for Christ in so many student's lives. My favorite quote from the teacher of the year a few years back in regards to students who were beaten to the point of death to be in a gang, "I wondered why? Why would they do that? And it's because the deepest need in every person's life is to be needed. To be loved. to be accepted." Seems like we are getting further and further away from actually caring about students. Need Christ's love in the schools.

Who else is excited for this great movie?????

Cause I am

I'm Baaaaaack

What's up 3 followers. I am forcing myself back into the blogging world. I have missed it so incredibly much. Let's see here. For my first and incredibly memorable blog I give you this tid bit of facts. Completely random and in no particular order. 1. The spurs will go 16-0 in the playoffs. 2. My wife is the most patient woman I know for staying with me for almost 2 years. 3. When I am older I would like a beard just like Dumbledore. 4. I do not know if I am more afraid of bees or sharks. I feel that both would annihilate me in a steel cage death match. 5. People who comment that soldiers are "Needlessly murdering people" make me work incredibly hard to have Christian thoughts. 6. My father scheduled a skype date to debate with other people (Luckily my mother came back home today. He clearly needed her). 7. I am so incredibly excited for Les Miserables to come out in December. I will do my best to wait patiently. 8. Thank you to the one person that may actually read this. I'm sorry that you accidentally put in the wrong URL. I'm sure you did not read this far though. -See you 2 years from now. Juuuuust kidding

My My We Are Growing Up

I saw this little thing at this website today. Mitch had told me he became head coach, but it was still a really weird feeling to see it this way. Seems like just yesterday we were 13 and 14 and winning the Homeschool State Champions. Our claim to fame.

So sad

About 2 weeks ago there were two cops outside a lecture hall on campus at 7 PM. When asked why they were there they replied that they were "security" because inside the lecture hall there were speakers from Westboro Baptist Church. I had never heard of them so when I got home that night (or the next day. My days are all bunched up) I looked them up and some videos about them. I will not give my full review because that would be much too long and in the end fruitless. What I will say is how deeply it saddens me to see all the useless crap that they bring to their "protests". The only thing I could think of the whole time when I was reading about how they protest Soldiers funerals was what if I was at that funeral. My father served in the military, my brother served, and my younger brother is about to serve. If my little brother died and I look over at his funeral and see a "Thank God for Dead Soldiers sign".......well I find it interesting that they spit on the brave men that gave them the very right and freedom to spit on it. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

This is a little video of said Westboro. Let me just say this. FOX NEWS called them nutty and they love Glenn Beck and Bill O'reily. Just saying

The Worst Paper Cut

Today I was getting something out of my bag and the absolute worst thing possible happened. I reached in to look for a folder and moved my hand sideways inside the bag. What I did not know was that my fingers were actually in a folder and a piece of paper was UNDER my fingernail. As I moved my hand sideways I got a massive paper cut all along the length of my hand. And this horrendous paper cut along the whole of my finger was UNDER my finger nail. It gets my vote for the worst paper cut ever.

First Day at a Public School

I am currently in what I call a half student teaching class. I go to a school a couple times a week and observe and teach a few lessons. I have noticed a couple things. The first thing is that I absolutely love being a teacher (at least so far). The students are phenomenal and I have never gotten up at 700 AM and been excited. IT is a wonderful feeling. The second thing I noticed is that interaction with these students is giving me some wonderful stories. So I thought I would share them.
I was teaching a lesson the other day and we were talking about people having an identity crisis. I told the students that when I went from a Christian to a public school I had a major identity crisis. It was a totally different atmosphere and things that were cool at LCS were not cool at the public school. So I told my class that at the Christian school corduroys were cool. So on my first day at public school I wore my incredibly stylish green corduroys and a tucked in yellow shirt. One girl in the front (who up to this point never talked to me and ignored me) put her head down and started cracking up. She raised he hand and said "Wait. So you thought green corduroys were cool?" At this point I realized I had become my father. So I said to her, "Hey I was Mr. style man with my green corduroys and yellow shirt. The ladies loved me". Now she calls me Mr. Style and makes sure I know she does not forget I wore green corduroys. Middle schoolers are awesome.

Update on my Life

Wow it has been a long long time. I have been trying to come back to this lovely blog and write again, but every time I did come to the foot of that mountain I turned back, wishing it was not such a large climb. I just thought I would put a tiny tidbit in on my life in here. ALthough of the 3 people that read this they will already know so this will just be a review for them. The big picture looks like this. I am taking 20 credit hours at CMU this semester and I am working on the weekends. Does not sound to rough right? Lets dissect this a little more. On Mondays I have class at 12, but I usually have to print things off and I have to park at least a quarter of a mile away from campus because I am too cheap to buy a parking pass. So I will usually leave at 1030 for my lovely one hour drive. I then have class from 12 to 9 oclock straight. The only break comes for a half an hour at 3. I then will not get home till about 1030 or so. Luckily I have a class at 8am the next day so I get a full 6 hours or so of sleep. Wake up at 6 take a shower and leave by 630. Then it is a day starting at 8am and ending at 930pm at night. Lcukily I do get one 3 hour break from 3 to 6 where I usually do homework the whole time. After my lovely 13 hour day it is another hour drive back to the casa and home by 11. Tuesday night is lovely because I will get 9 hours of sleep or so. Asleep at midnight and up at 9. I then will do hw for an hour or so shower and leave for my 12 oclock class. Wednesdays I start at noon and end at 10, but I have a 4 hour break from 3-7. Usually 90% of this is dedicated to hw (mostly physics). After my incredibly long, boring, breakless 3 hour night class I usually go to an old friends house to crash on their couch becauseI don't really want to get home at 1130-midnight just to come back up for an 8am class. So I crash there. Wake up at 630 the next morning after sleeping in the clothes I came in and go to our Student Activity center to shower. Then it is an 8 Am class followed by a 4 hour break till my 2 oclock physics class and then FINALLY my classes are done and I go home. The weekends consist of three things. Work, homework, and maybe spending time with my wife. Unfortunately the last one (and my favorite thing) is the thing I get to do least. Worst comes to worst I fail don't graduate on time and my tuition increases 25% for my last semester. But that is the absolute worst it could get.

Way to go Charles Barkley

HE put in the best words. Lebron James is a punk. I absolutely hate him. He is actually tied with Serena as my most hated athlete.

Worst miss of the Century

Thanks to my pal Mitch for telling me about this. What an absolute idiot. 2 things. 1.)This is why Europeans don't want to play in America, and 2.) If this would have happened to a guy in the EPL or playing in Champions league he literally probably would have been killed.

The Reason Chivalry is dead

My father and I were talking about how women's "sexual revolution" that was suppose to free them did exactly the opposite. In my opinion, women are the reason chivalry is dead. Guys barely have to try (especailly in college) and guys (especially in college) only want one thing and woman are more than happy to give it. And the they are *gasp* appaled when he doesn't care about her and just wanted one thing. So, how do you make men and women equal. Well obviously you get a bunch of women to walk down the street topless. The onlookers were mostly male and mostly had cameras. Shocked? Me neither. The leader of the march is clearly an absolute bimbo as she said she was "enraged" by the turnout of men attracted to the demonstration. Wow wow wow. So stupid. I mean it is just so sad.

Story that brings new meaning to "Having an app for that"

A man is trapped in the rubble after an earthquake and he has a compund fracture and is bleeding excessively. Good thing he has an app for that.
