Well, for sheer numbers, they are absolutely correct, mosquitoes are the number one animal killers, mostly through malaria.
Mosquitoes don't scare me but their ability to kill large numbers of people is truly frightening.
As for Great Whites, I'm with Ben. The thought of a massive beast with razor sharp teeth bearing down on me in water--his element, not mine--is pretty scary.
If you want to take your fear of sharks to another level, watch a film called "Open Water." It will make you think twice about deep sea diving!
